HiveHome was set up by British Gas in 2012 with the mission to revolutionize the industry by providing their customers the power to control their heating systems. HiveHome utilizes state of the art technology to develop innovative, simple to use products and services that allow their customers to sync their home with their lives. HiveHome has created a service that allows customers to change the temperature setting in their home from their smartphone.
Provide a system capable of serving over 100K requests per second while providing the ability to manage a large amount of brochureware content while leveraging Spree to deliver a seamless e-commerce experience.
A new site was developed in which a large amount of brochureware content was easily added for the new site. The content was added using AlchemyCMS which was added to the system. Spree was leveraged to deliver a seamless e-commerce experience.
Integrations were added to the system for SalesForce APIs, Levereaged, Capistrano, Puppet, and Supply Drop in order to deliver powerful capabilities that eased management of four different environments. These capabilities made the task of rebuilding a new environment possible within 3 commands. The effort to add these capabilities included utilizing Amazon AWS, EC2, CloudFormation, CloudFront, and CloudWatch. 24 x 7 monitoring was provided with first, second, and third level support plans put in place as well as by utilizing Selenium for regression testing.
